F-Stop Bag – Satori

If you are researching this bag, you probably have found my main review on the main site of Fstopgear.com. This is a little bit more to add to it.

Satori & Nyki, Tom at Pelican Rapids

Open Satori

I like getting colorful stuff because if I set it down or lose it it makes it troublesome to find if its a bag that blends in easily. So I got the red version but it comes in both black and gray.

This thing appears big, but it isnt nearly as heavy as it looks. It really feels a lot lighter than the computrekker my shooting partner, Tom, was using. Tom used it on a shoot down to the rocks and confirmed it to being much more comfortable to use than his Lowepro computrekker.

Satori & Golf Club At Lake Grosbeak

Im a very small guy. 5 feet, 8 inches tall. 130 lbs and in Oct-Nov of last year I partially tore my tendon in my left arm. While it still and always will bug me for the most part using the my old Tamrac Expedition 5x bag was pretty much a never again said my physiotherapist . I figured it would be a while before I went shooting again and so it was – 8 months before I could properly hold my camera again. I waited until the physiotherapist gave me the green light to put some weight on my back and do light stretching until it was fully better before I tested this thing out.

Now speaking for me personally, I am not telling everyone with a busted shoulder to go out and buy this bag…In my opinion and my opinion only – this bag feels much better on my back than did my Tamrac. I think its because it covers the whole of the back and is supported not completely off of the shoulders. It wraps around your hips and balances on them evenly, actually relying much less on your shoulders that it would if it were stockier and smaller.

Another thing I liked was; More room. Two tripod support systems on each side (balances the weight even more) and one in the front. Padded backrest and two wings that fold around and buckle at my hips – padded too. Can fit my 17″ laptop securely and there is PLENTY of room for much more. Right now its half full and Im only shooting with 4 lenses, 2 flash units and a camera body, full assortment of singh and lee filters. Another thing I like is the ICU can be removed and swapped out. I can also swap the whole thing out entirely and pack it like I would a backpackers or camping bag.

A lot of people mention the fact that this bag opens in the back. I really like this feature. No fumbling around with zippers to access your gear when a rare bird or lynx stumbles right in your path (though if it was a lynx I would probably hope I was on the ATV or a car…). Just slip it off, reach behind and unzip…pretty simple.

For the price of just 289$ (US) too, I definitely think this bag should be on any serious adventure photographers list of essential equipment to buy.

Really I cannot think of one bad thing about this bag. If it were fully waterproof – so we could take it to the remote lakes and rivers of the NWT and not worry about the boat tipping then DAMN there would be no competition. I give it 9 point 9 out of 10.
